Nancy Murnyak, longtime Assistant Head Coach for ACPR Gymnastics was awarded the 2011 Maryland Coach of the Year Award during a ceremony held at the Churchville Recreation Center, March 26, 2011.  The award was presented to Ms. Murnyak by the following a competition session of the level 8 Maryland State Gymnastics Championships hosted by ACPR at the facility.  USA Gymnastics Maryland State Chairman, Jay Barrows, presented the prestigious award to a surprised “Miss Nancy” (as the ACPR team girls refer to her).  Only one coach per year is awarded this honor from nominations made to the Maryland USA Gymnastics State Administrative Board.

This award is presented in recognition of Nancy’s numerous accomplishments, both in the present season and in the past 30+ years of her coaching career.  Nancy has helped train hundreds of ACPR competitive gymnasts over the years, with many State champions, Regional and National level competitors.  She has traveled with ACPR gymnasts all over the US, the Bahamas, Bermuda and even to Europe.   She has traveled with ACPR athletes to USA gymnastics J.O. National Championships, and to the National Invitational Tournament in the last couple of years. A number of ACPR gymnasts coached by Nancy have gone on to successful College gymnastics careers, some achieving gymnastics scholarships at schools like the University of Maryland, the University of West Virginia, etc.

This is the first time in ACPR Gymnastics 33 years of competitive gymnastics that one of their coaches was honored with this award.
